My first job at Portland Community College was managing and re-vitalizing the Fab Lab makerspace – an arts oriented makerspace that had fallen dormant due to lack of dedicated staffing and programming. My job was to serve as intermediary manager – getting all equipment operational again, building out safety protocols, signage, inventory, and tutorial documentation.
During my time as manager, I built demo projects, hosted class workshops & tours, and held open lab hours and trainings for any PCC staff or students who were interested in learning and using the equipment. This was one of the most fun jobs I have ever had – it was only supposed to be a part time job to last the Summer, but it transitioned into the full-time coordinator position.
